It went on to become a smash hit series, later followed by Marathon 2 (1995), Marathon Infinity (1996) and a number of fan-made expansions such as Marathon Rubicon, Marathon EVIL and several others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marathon&#8217;s and thus Bungies success laid the foundation for what was internally codenamed &#8216;Project BLAM&#8217; which turned into the next success story of Bungie, namely Halo: Combat Evolved early in the 2000s, which led Microsoft to acquiring of Bungie with the intention of releasing the game solely for it&#8217;s upcoming X-BOX game console.
